conversations with the devil

On Tuesday, we visited the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth for the last lecture of the fall season. Something we will both miss terribly!
Tony Scherman, and encaustic painter, concluded the series with a philosophical discussion about his work. He spoke about a few different series, but his "conversations with the devil" especially sparked my interest. He related his paintings of cut flowers set on a dark background to the ideas of German philosopher Immanuel Kant. Cut flowers entering the human realm and being assigned a purpose.
